“If you can change what you’ve got right here, then you can change the world,” said Evan Lemons, co-founder of The Cause Factory.

This belief is the foundation of The Cause Factory, based in Franklin.

“The Cause Factory is something we just created,” said Lemons, “we’re just a group of friends that decided to come together and throw parties for non-profit organizations.”

Lemons and his Cause Factory co-founders – Amir Altair, Kevin Holifield, and Dee Dyer – all have full-time jobs, but in their off time, they work together to raise funds for local charities.

A shared interest in cars led the friends to the idea of organizing a car show, according to Lemons.

That idea will come to fruition in the form of Cars for the Cure, which will be held Saturday, June 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Williamson County Ag Expo Center.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Williamson Medical Center Breast Health Center.

Do we truly listen or do we just hear things? It strikes us as odd when businesses don’t listen to their customers even if they are screaming at the top of their lungs for changes. Recently I read an a blog by Scott Monty, the head of social media for Ford Motor Company, who takes the time to write to us about what he thinks of social media from an inside source on how companies have to adapt when dealing with an informed clientele.

There’s Hearing, Then There’s Listening

We were all probably taught the difference between listening and hearing when we were children. ”I hear you,” you say. No doubt you’ve uttered that or had it uttered to you. But is it enough?
We all have a fundamental need to be heard; that implies that we’re acknowledged, certainly. Technically, hearing is simply the process of sound being transmitted and received. Telling someone that you’ve heard them is a good first step, and while that’s an easy way to make a customer feel appreciated by a major brand, there are times when it needs to go beyond hearing and to truly listen: to take to heart what they’ve said and take a harder look at a business practice or service.

In this TEDx talk, renowned photographer Chase Jarvis shares his ideas about working through creative fears and setting your ideas free.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Sinnreich envisions a new internet that uses mesh networking to produce a stable, ad hoc, global wireless network in which each user is a router, server and client combined, and in which no single state or organization can effectively censor or surveil the population on a broad scale.

To date, Sinnreich and his team have developed a set of “social specifications” describing the functionalities required of MondoNet, and are in the process of mapping these specifications to open technological platforms. Their present aim is to develop a fully open, global development process akin to the collaborative environments surrounding Linux and Wikimedia.

Chances are you’ve heard the term Akismet before in the context of preventing WordPress blog spam. So what is Akismet exactly? Akismet is a powerful tool in the fight WAR against comment spam and trackback spam. This isn’t your ordinary anti-spam plugin that just adds a simple image code which supposedly verifies if the commentor is a “human” or not. The truth is, spam bots are getting more and more sophisticated by the day, and who knows? They may even be able to circumvent your CAPTCHA code and spam you like crazy. What Akismet does is different.
